The Institute of Apparel Management (IAM) under the Apparel Export Promotion Council is all set to introduce its ‘SMART' courses (skills for manufacturing apparel through research and training) in Tirupur knitwear cluster within the next few days.
“The courses are aimed at producing a skilled worked force competent in the areas of merchandising, sourcing, production management and quality auditing,” Centre head, IAM, P. Ravi Kishore said.
According to him, it has been planned to conduct four workshops every month on the above said areas of specialisation.
First set of the workshops would commence at the ‘SMART' centre developed at the Knitwear Technology Mission building near Avinashi on September 6.
An interesting aspect of the course, Mr. Kishore said, would be the modules incorporated in the schedule to train the workers on soft skills, hygiene and change management for overall personality development.
“As part of the soft skill training, workers will be taught the importance of conversation skills and gestures as expected by the foreign buyers,” he added.
The training would also be imparted on how to maintain the quality standards and the importance of commerce in fabric sourcing.
