IAAS conference at BU from Aug. 11

Bharathiar University in association with the U.S. Consulate General, Chennai, will organise the 40th annual conference of the Indian Association for American Studies (IAAS) at the university from August 11 to 13.

According to a release from the Organising Secretary, the conference will be inaugurated by Governor of Maharashtra K. Sankaranarayanan. Minister-Counsellor for Public Affairs of the U.S. Embassy Michael Pelletier will deliver the keynote address.

Minister for Rural Industries and Animal Husbandry Pongalur N. Palanisamy will deliver a special address.

The inauguration will be followed by a panel discussion on issues of security, terrorism, cultural ties, and the role of Indian Americans in America's development. Experts from various universities will be panellists.

As many as 500 papers from participants drawn from all over the world will be presented over the three days.

The valediction will be held on August 13. Member Secretary of Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education S. Bhaskaran will be the chief guest and Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University P. Murugesa Boopathi will preside.
