A human chain was formed from R.S. Puram to Vadavalli Bus Terminus via Mettupalayam Road and Cowley Brown Road here on Thursday to create awareness about eye diseases and mark World Sight Day.

Organised by Lotus Eye Hospital and Institute, the human chain was intended to educate the public on blindness prevention measures and early treatment.

S.K. Sundaramoorthy, chairman of Lotus Eye Hospital and Institute, said that frequent eye check-ups were vital for preventing and treating visual impairments.

According to a press release, around 7.8 million people in India suffered from some form of visual impairment. World Sight Day is observed annually on the second Thursday of October to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment.
