Protesting against Railway and State Highways officials for their alleged failure in constructing a subway and service road, residents of Murugan Nagar and HUDCO Nagar staged a human chain agitation near the Peelamedu Railway Over Bridge (ROB) on Friday.
President of the Peelamedu Consumer Voice P.V. Gopal, who led the protest, said that no action was taken by the officials despite repeated appeals from the residents. The inaction inflicted hardship on over 20,000 residents of these two colonies.
In the absence of a subway, residents were forced climb over the RoB. Though the officials had promised to meet the demands for the subway and service road in three months, no work had been taken up so far despite this time-frame having elapsed. Even the promise for a footover bridge had not been kept.
As an immediate measure, the residents demanded that heavy vehicles should not be allowed to use HUDCO Colony roads.
