HR & CE department urged to shift temples soon

Coimbatore Consumer Cause has urged the Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments Department to immediately shift three temples on Nanjappa Road in Gandhipuram so that the service lanes for the Gandhipuram flyover can be widened.

In a letter to the department, the consumer organisation pointed out that the temples were on NH Road and the Revenue Department had allotted alternative land for these three temples in February last year. The department provided “Enter Upon Permission” for the land that were located in the vicinity. However, the HR & CE department is yet to shift the temples.

The district administration had conducted meetings with the officials concerned and yet there was no action. The Supreme Court has passed orders on removing temples on roads and had issued instructions to Chief Secretaries.

The first phase of Gandhipuram flyover is almost over and if the temples are not shifted, the service lanes could not be widened. This would cause inconvenience to the public, said secretary of the consumer body K. Kathirmathiyon. If the HR & CE department failed to shift the temples soon, the consumer body “would be constrained to take up the issue with the High Court for suitable orders,” he said.
