HP leaves LPG consumers in a fix

January 29, 2013 12:31 pm | Updated 12:31 pm IST - COIMBATORE:

The nearly two lakh consumers of HP Gas of the Hindusthan Petroleum serviced by over 22 distributors in Coimbatore, the Nilgiris, Tirupur were in for a shock on Monday, when they dialled the Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) number for booking their LPG refill.

The HP Gas has all of a sudden asked all its LPG consumers to submit a self-attested photostat copy of the Aadhaar card issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India.

The process of applying for Aadhaar and issue of the same had not been appreciable as far as Tamil Nadu was concerned. HP Gas sources pointed out that of the total population only 28 to 35 per cent would have gone for the Aadhaar cards. Under such circumstances, even before the Aadhaar card issue had not progressed making it mandatory for consumers has led to confusion.

Later, the HP Gas officials reportedly told the distributors not to insist on Aadhaar card and accept from whoever gives it.

Oral instructions were that those who do not have Aadhaar cards will not face any problems in getting their LPG refill.
