Collector R. Sudalaikannan has asked bankers to cooperate with the district administration for the successful implementation of the Kalaignar Housing Scheme.
The State Government has introduced the scheme to provide concrete housing to the poor. The process of identifying the beneficiaries for the scheme is being carried out in the district. A number of teams have been formed to conduct the survey and identify the beneficiaries, he said while participating at the district-level consultative committee meeting held here on Tuesday. While reviewing the progress of various programmes implemented with the help of banks, officials expressed satisfaction over the performance of banks during the previous financial year.
The priority sector lending in Erode district stood at Rs. 4,203 crore, which was 52 per cent of the total advances. The banks had extended loans to the tune of Rs. 1,881 crore to the agriculture sector, which was 45 per cent of the total loans provided during the last fiscal.
Officials said that the total deposits collected by the banks in Erode district during the previous year was 6,402 crore. The total advances stood at Rs. 7,337 crore.
While Canara Bank extended Rs. 22.35 crore to 1,319 students, Indian Overseas Bank provided Rs. 30.22 crore to 1,575 students. The State Bank of India provided Rs. 26.40 crore to 1,506 students. Officials expressed satisfaction over the bank's role in the Prime Ministers Employment Generation programme. A sum of Rs. 7.09 crore had been extended to entrepreneurs selected under this programme as against the target of Rs. 3.30 crore.
Assistant General Manager of Reserve Bank of India Vijayakumar, Assistant General Manager of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development Santhanam, Lead District manager Muniraj and senior officials from various government departments and banks were present.
