The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University is looking at the established hospitals to become teaching institutions and offer courses in the allied healthcare areas, its Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mayilvahanan Natarajan has said.
He was speaking after accepting the Teachers' Teacher Award at the 10th anniversary celebrations of Lotus Hospital held here on Saturday evening. Hospital Managing Director Dr. E.K. Sagadhevan presented the award to the Vice-Chancellor.
Dr. Natarajan said that the university had already given affiliation to a few hospitals to conduct diploma and three year B.Sc degree programmes in allied healthcare.
Students of these diploma and degree programmes would have the advantage of learning various aspects practically, he pointed out.
The Vice-Chancellor said that the university was open to suggestions for enhancing the quality of medical education in the State.
A lot of changes were taking place in the medical education in the world. The university was making all necessary efforts to continuously improve the quality of education, he added.
Dr. Sagadhevan presided over the function.
Indian Medical Association Tamil Nadu State President S. Sukumar, Medical Superintendent of Perundurai Medical College M. Rajendran, senior doctors and students were present at the award presentation programme.
