City Police Commissioner C. Sylendra Babu on Thursday presented cash rewards to a home guard, an inspector and three police personnel for their swift and prompt action in solving a theft case.

According to police, on March 21 midnight, an ex-convict Satheesh Kumar (26) scaled the wall and gained entry into the house of Jayaraj (47) on Podanur Chettipalayam Panchayat Office road and made a theft attempt.

On hearing the sound, Jayaraj along with his family members made an effort to apprehend the culprit.

Satheesh Kumar took to heels and unrelenting Jayaraj, an home guard gave a hot chase and got hold of the accused. In a bid to escape, the accused bit the index finger of Jayaraj and fled under the cover of darkness.

Based on a complaint, Inspector Senthilkumar, head constable Boopathy and constables Murugan and Elango within 12 hours of the incident nabbed the accused. The accused has been convicted in many house burglary cases.
