Police officials and personnel across various ranks placed wreaths and paid homage to uniformed service personnel across the country who died on the call of duty. Twenty-four policemen fired three rounds of bullets each for paying their respect to martyrs at the observance organised on the Police Recruit School Grounds here on Tuesday.
A total of 653 uniformed services personnel from the police, Border Security Force, Central Reserved Police Force, Central Industrial Security Force and other uniformed services (except defence personnel) across India who died in combat from September 1, 2013, to August 31, 2014, were remembered in the Commemoration Parade. One of the martyrs was from the Tamil Nadu Police Department. Commissioner of Coimbatore City Police A.K. Viswanathan read the names of martyrs in each State.
Inspector General of Police (Western Region) K. Shankar, Deputy Inspector General (Coimbatore Range) Ayush Mani Tiwari, Deputy Commissioners of the Coimbatore City Police Pravesh Kumar (Law and Order), T.K. Rajasekaran (Traffic) and Ramya Bharathi (Crime), Superintendent of Police (Coimbatore) M. Sudhakar, Coimbatore Central Prison Superintendent K. Anandan, Deputy Director of the Fire and Rescue Services Department Shahul Hameed and retired officials also paid homage.
The officials and the police personnel of lower ranks (one from each rank) paid homage to the martyrs by placing a wreath at the temporary memorial. The Commemoration Parade was led by Inspector of the Armed Reserve Police of the city M. Ravichandar.
