Heavy rain that lashed many parts of the Nilgiris have uprooted trees blocking roads.

These trees, mostly invasive varities such as eucalyptus and wattle trees, are a constant threat to residents and motorists as they quickly get uprooted in heavy wind and rain.

Traffic hit

On Tuesday, a wattle tree got uprooted leading to traffic disruption along a stretch of road from Yellanalli to Ketti Palada for around an hour. Vehicles were diverted at the Valley View Junction to Selas, and other places. The road was cleared by Tuesday noon.

A total of 373 mm of rain was recorded in the district between Monday night and Tuesday morning with Coonoor and Kotagiri getting most of the rainfall. There were reports of more trees being uprooted near Pykara, and on way to Gudalur.
