The Health Department has intensified the awareness campaign on dengue fever and the mosquito control measures.
On Monday, it organised a rally in Erode town with the participation of students from paramedical colleges and its employees. Collector V.K. Shanmugam flagged off the rally at the Collectorate. A campaign vehicle was also inaugurated.
The department has planned to organise similar rallies across the district. Handbills carrying information on the symptoms of dengue fever, prevention measures and mosquito control will also be distributed through the health workers and students.
Teams comprising health workers, conservancy workers, elected representatives and members of self-help groups had also been formed to carry out the cleaning exercise across the district. The teams would remove water stored in containers such as broken plastic pots and used tyres, besides carrying out fogging and anti-larval exercises, officials said.
They added that a total of 55 special medical teams had been formed to treat fever cases and for disease monitoring.
The department had taken up these initiatives as the district reported an increase in the number of dengue fever cases.
In the last two weeks, the district had recorded more than ten dengue positive cases.
