“Only 13 per cent of those who complete school go for higher education. Those who are privileged to complete higher education should give back to society in the form of educating children and developing efficient human resources,” Vice-Chancellor of SRM University M. Ponnavaikko said here on Sunday.

Delivering the graduation day address at KGiSL Institute of Information Management, the Vice-Chancellor told the MCA graduates that the country was filled with challenges. As educated citizens they should ensure that they did not get caught in those challenges, but worked to get the country free of those challenges.

“One of the main challenges is that people want to achieve success very fast using crooked means. Youth should ensure that every citizen got what he/she deserved using the right means and not more than that. For this, it is not enough to be knowledgeable and skilled. It is necessary to aim high and also possess the ability to realise that aim,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

Stressing the importance of being ethical in life, Mr. Ponnavaikko said it was necessary to lead a life without lies. This was what would bring glory to the person as well as to the organisation he worked for, he added.

“The reason for disharmony in the world is because people are not able to co-habitate and live in harmony. Companies are nowadays looking for skills to work in a team. This capability will permeate to the society. The spirit to divide and live in groups is what is creating disharmony among people,” he said.

Managing trustee of the institution Ashok Bakthavathsalam said students were moulded with strong job orientation and prepared to face the real world requirements of the information technology industries.

Secretary and director of KGiSL Educational Institutions R. Ravichandran spoke.
