The parents of 21 students of a government elementary school in the district have alleged that the school Headmistress had forced the students to clean toilets. The parents staged a protest in front of the school located at Ponnegoundenpudur near Gomangalam in Pollachi on Wednesday.

According to the rural district police, the protestors alleged that the Headmistress had beaten 13 girl students and eight boys and had forcibly made them clean toilets as punishment. They demanded the immediate removal of the Headmistress and an inquiry into the incident.

Police officials said that they held talks for over two hours with the protestors, who dispersed only after the Headmistress went on leave.

The local school education department official was asked to submit a report to the Directorate of Elementary Education.

The police officials assured the parents that action would be initiated against the Headmistress once the inquiry was completed.
