The AIADMK government is known for time-bound completion of projects and an example is the Gandhipuram flyover, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said here on Wednesday.
Inaugurating the first deck of the two-deck flyover across the busy Gandhipuram and GP junctions and launching a drinking water augmentation scheme, he said that the government had completed the project in time and would complete the second deck within time as well.
This was not the case during the DMK government that merely announced projects.
There was no progress thereafter. But the AIADMK government that was progressing in the course charted by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had completed the ₹120 crore first deck in time.
In the same spirit, the government would also soon float tenders for the ₹121 crore Ukkadam-Athupalam flyover project and take steps for early commencement of the nine-km-long elevated express way on Avinashi Road from Uppilipalayam.
Likewise, the government was in the process of completing the detailed project report for the western bypass in the city - a project aimed at diverting away heavy vehicle movement from the city.
Those measures, Mr. Palaniswami said, would ease the traffic congestion in the city.
The Coimbatore district would see more such developments from the AIADMK government, which had lined up a series of projects. The government would announce those during the birth centenary celebrations of the former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran. The schemes would make the city a self-sufficient one, he added.
Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development, and Special Projects Implementation S.P. Velumani said the Chief Minister was committed to also implementing the metro rail, ₹250 crore Athikadavu-Avinashi water scheme and many others for the development of Coimbatore and Kongu region as well.
Likewise, the drinking water augmentation would benefit the added areas of the Coimbatore Corporation.
The Opposition’s criticism of the government in general and the Chief Minister in particular would not gain currency for the latter was working very hard for the State’s development. Collector T.N. Hariharan welcomed the gathering.
Minister for Animal Husbandry Udumalai K. Radhakrishnan, Secretary, Highways Department, Rajeev Ranjan, Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assembly and senior Coimbatore Corporation officials were present.
