The rank holders in Class X and Plus Two public examinations have, for many years now, have been mostly students from private matriculation.
Breaking this stranglehold of private schools, toppers have emerged from Corporation and Government schools in Coimbatore this year.
For the first time in over a decade, a Corporation school student has bagged a State rank, coming third. This shows that Corporation schools also can compete with the best of private schools, says H. Vasantha, Corporation Education Officer.
S. Thejaswini of Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School at Ranganathapuram, with 497 out of 500 marks, has bagged the State third rank. Except Tamil and English, she had secured centum in all other subjects. “I will opt for biology group in Plus One as I want to be the first doctor in the family,” she says.
Another topper was B. Mythreyei of Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School, who secured 496 to bag the district third rank.
Government school students were also not far behind with D. Sowsitha Kamatchi of Government Higher Secondary School, Seripalayam near Pollachi, scoring 496 marks. She also emerged as the topper among all Government schools in the Coimbatore revenue district, which comprised two educational districts of Coimbatore and Pollachi.
The daughter of daily wage labourers, S. Pavitra of Government Higher Secondary School at Sundakamuthur scored 495 to emerge as the topper among Government schools in Coimbatore Educational District. While she’s also going to opt for biology ground, her aim is set on the civil services
