As is the case every year, Government Arts College will be the last of the colleges to begin its admission process here from June 7.
Though the college started issue of applications like any other arts and science college, it was not able to receive filled-in applications in the same manner. The standard Government admission guidelines stipulate that a college receives filled-in applications from the day of the issue of the Plus-Two original mark sheet by the school.
Every year the Government issues admission guidelines giving the respective dates from receiving applications to starting of the academic session. But this is merely on paper as the guidelines seldom reach colleges on time. While the others go on with the admission process without waiting for the guidelines, Government Arts College follows the standard guidelines even if it fails to receive the same, like this year.
According to K. Shanmuga Sundaram, Controller of Examinations of the college, the college has started receiving filled-in applications from May 27, the day the original Plus-Two mark sheets were issued.

“Though we have not yet got the guidelines, we are going by the standard format. We will receive applications till June 7. Since the admission process is completely digitised, the rank list will be released the same evening. It will be available on the college website the same day and on the college notice board from June 8,” he says.
Counselling for special category will be held on June 17, and general counselling will be held from June 18 to 22. The college will begin the academic session on June 24.
The college has sold nearly 10,000 forms. More than 5,000 students have already submitted filled-in applications. There are 1,319 seats available in 20 undergraduate courses.
Two new courses – one in Defence Studies and another in computer applications – have been added this year.
