The process for the admission of students belonging to marginalised and disadvantaged sections in the matriculation and nursery schools under the Right to Education Act has evoked good response in Salem district.
Under the Right to Education Act 2009 of the Central Government, 25 % of the seats in the LKG classes in the schools other than minority educational institutions should be earmarked to the children belonging to weaker sections and to those who were denied education. They should be imparted free education.
The Centre will remit the fee for the children admitted under the RTE Act till they complete Standard VIII to the schools concerned.
The procedures for admission into the LKG commenced with the distribution of application forms. The Education Department officials have directed the managements of the matriculation and nursery schools in the district to distribute the application forms and also display the information in this regard for the benefit of the parents promptly.
The parents can also download the forms from the website.
A. Gnana Gowri, Chief Educational Officer, told The Hindu here on Tuesday that every child can submit applications for five schools of their choice. If the number of applications received was more than 25 % , the selection of students will be done through lots in the presence of parents. Priority in admission will be given to the children residing in the neighbourhood of the school concerned.
The parents can collect the applications in all the matriculation and nursery schools, and in the offices of the AEEOs, DEEOs, BRC centres across the district.
All the admission formalities will be completed and the list of the selected students will be finalised by May 29, Mrs. Gnana Gowri said.
All the matriculation schools should strictly adhere the above condition and the department will initiate stringent action against the institutions which violated the same, the sources said.
