Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Coimbatore, seized 1.38 kg gold worth ₹43.37 lakh from two passengers on March 12 at the Coimbatore International Airport.

The two passengers arrived here from Sharjah by Air Arabia flight. On the basis of specific intelligence, the officials identified K.P. Ashab and E.S. Suneer, intercepted them and recovered abdominal belts with gold concealment. The two belts weighed 2.850 kilos. After detailed procedure to separate gold from the compound of Eraldide paste mixed with sand dust from each belt, which took more than six hours, gold was extracted in solidified form. The total gold extracted was 1381.44 grams valued at ₹43,37,721.6 lakh (at ₹3,140 per gram). Both the persons were arrested and released on bail, officials said.
