Gold seized at Coimbatore airport

Customs officials at the Coimbatore airport seized 600 gm of gold from a passenger who arrived here on Wednesday night from Singapore by a Silk Air flight.

Minu Pramod, Additional Commissioner of Customs, told The Hindu here on Thursday that Syed Abdullah (aged about 26) from Ramanathapuram District had concealed the gold valuing Rs. 18 lakh in his body.

The Customs officials had searched the passenger on suspicion and found six gold bars with foreign marking concealed. Investigations are on, Ms. Pramod said.

This is the fourth incident of gold seizure at the Coimbatore airport in the last three months. In the last three incidents, the passengers had arrived here from Sharjah by Air Arabia flights.
