A 10-year-girl, daughter of a migrant worker from Bihar was killed when the walls of their house in Mattukkara Samy Koil Street in Sugunapuram of Kuniamuthur collapsed in the small hours of Monday.
According to police, because of the heavy downpour in the last couple of days, the wall had some dampness and the showers on Sunday night led to the collapse. No body else was injured in the mishap.
The police have registered a case of 304 A (negligence causing death) of Indian Penal Code against Marudhamuthu (53), the owner of the house and investigations are on.
Man washed away in Pollachi
The compound walls of two houses collapsed at Marapettai and Jothi Nagar in Pollachi due to rains. No one was injured in the incident.
A labourer, Anandan (33) of Gangampalayam near Anaimalai was washed away in flash floods when tried to wade through the water in a low lying bridge in the area. However, he managed to rest on a rock and was later rescued and taken for treatment.
Nataraja Pillai (62) of Thensithur near Pollachi was washed away in a low lying bridge when he tried to wade through the water. His body was recovered from a rock along the stream. Kottur Police are investigating.
A sum of Rs. 1 lakh and odd is to be handed over by the Revenue authorities to the bereaved family members as compensation from the Social Security Scheme on Monday, RDO office sources in Pollachi said.
