A team of researchers, students and professionals from Germany called on Mayor R. Venkatachalam, Commissioner T.K. Ponnusamy and other Corporation officials on the Corporation premises on Tuesday.

Dennis Dietrich, a nuclear scientist and the team leader, said that the team of 10 had come to India on an exchange programme organised by the Young Men Christian Association to learn about YMCA India's activities.

YMCA in Esslingen, a city in Germany, and YMCA Salem had entered into an understanding on exchange of students and professionals, he said. And since most members of the team were from Esslingen, which is on a twin-city status with Coimbatore, the team members were in the textile city.

At the Corporation, the team learnt about the functioning of various wings of the civic body, the powers of the Mayor and Council, their responsibility and how the city was administered.

Mr. Ponnusamy presented a slide show on the Corporation's activities.

Sandra Rosenberg, a student of economics in Stuttgart, Germany, said she had been to India quite a few times and loved the culture and cuisine. “It is totally a different world out here.”

With help from Goethe-Zentrum, the Coimbatore Indo-German Cultural Association, the team members visited various parts of the city.

K. Viswanath Kamath, Centre Head, Goethe-Zentrum, said the team members interacted with students of GD Matriculation Higher Secondary School, visited GD Museum and a factory.
