The Peelamedu police on Friday arrested two persons on charges of selling ganja and seized around 1,100 gm.
The police said that following a tip off that a youth was selling the contraband at the SITRA Junction, the police send a sub inspector in civvy to the locality to identify and nab the person.
The police said that the sub inspector Sivakumar went to the spot, found a youth moving around under suspicious circumstances.
Mr. Sivakumar approached the person asking for a ganja packet. He refused initially and when the sub inspector pressed further, he sold a packet for Rs. 100.
Soon thereafter, the sub inspector and the policemen who lay in wait arrested the youth, who, they identified as V. Jaikumar, 23, of Sathyamangalam.
The police, based on the information he revealed, said that Jaikumar was a college dropout. He had discontinued studies in final year from a leading city college.
He stayed at a friend’s room in the city and indulged in ganja business.
He sourced the contraband directly from Sathyamangalam and also through a conduit – L. Karupayee, 65.
The police said that based on Jaikumar’s information that Karupayee would be arriving in the bus to sell him a few packets later on Friday, the police rushed to the Gandhipuram bus stand.
There they arrested the woman, also a native of Sathyamangalam, and seized 800 grams from her.
The police registered a case in this connection.
