Victim's mother petitions Collector seeking permission to meet her daughter
The five accused of gang rape of a minor girl underwent medical examination at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Tuesday. One of the accused is a minor.
Four of them are in the age group of 50 years and above.
The accused, other than the juvenile, were: Karuppasamy of Sulur; Ragam Karuppasamy of Ramanathapuram; Gopalakrishnan and Balu alias Balasubramanian.
Residents of Ramanathapuram, women activists, and women lawyers staged a demonstration on Tuesday.
Some of the lawyers who had already resolved not to appear for the accused till the filing of charge-sheet, asked the bar association to take a similar stand. The victim’s mother (who deserted her daughter long ago) filed a petition with the District Collector seeking permission to meet her.
At the Coimbatore Central Prison, the prison officials have lodged the five accused in a separate cell.
Judicial Magistrate court-V on Tuesday posted the hearing in a jewellery theft case to March 20, after the Sub-Inspector involved in the case failed to appear before the court for the second time.
A couple of months ago, Suseela of Sathyamangalam in Erode was robbed of her six-sovereign chain at Ukkadam bus stand.
A Sub-Inspector who caught the accused, reportedly gave only half-a-sovereign back to Suseela. Based on her complaint, the police official was placed under suspension. Suseela moved the court and the case was posted for hearing on January 22. The official failed to appear on the day, but filed a petition seeking permission to appear on another day.
The case was then posted to February 19.
The investigation into the scam involving a multi-level marketing firm has been transferred from the District Crime Branch to the Economic Offences Wing.
A case was registered by the police following complaints from investors alleging financial fraud to a tune of Rs. 818 crore by Senthil Kumar and Vivek, promoters of Fine Future.
