Fratricide: Man arrested in Coimbatore

Kuniamuthur police have arrested a man on charges of murder. The police said they picked up Isravel from a bush, where he was hiding after the incident.

Kuniamuthur police have arrested a 55-year-old man on charges of murdering his 33-year-old brother on Saturday.

The police said that Isravel, the eldest son of Mary, stabbed to death John Kennedy, one of his younger brothers, after the latter questioned his behaviour.

Isravel is said to have abused his mother in an inebriated condition after she refused to give him money to buy liquor.

Mary, Isravel and John lived at the same house. The police said they picked up Isravel from a bush, where he was hiding after the incident. A case has been registered in this connection.

Two held

Following complaints of selling clippings from pirated prints of latest Tamil films, the Saravanampatti police have arrested Ashok Kumar, 24.

The police said that he owned a mobile phone shop, where he carried on the illegal activity.

The police seized a few disks, memory cards, pen drives and computer from the shop.

The police have registered a case in this connection.

The police also arrested Ganesan, 29, of Chinna Vedampatti on similar charges. He owned a mobile phone shop in Sivanandapuram. The police have registered another case in this connection.

Girl succumbs to burns

Seven-year-old Avanya, daughter of Palanisamy, succumbed to burns at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Saturday night.

The Mettupalayam police said that the girl pushed the vessel with hot water and sustained burns. She was rushed to the CMCH.

Women robbed

In three different incidents in Coimbatore on Sunday, three women were robbed of their jewellery by motorcycle-borne men who snatched the chains.

In the first incident in Selvapuram, Kamalam, wife of Srinivasan, was robbed of her seven-sovereign chain when she was walking along the Perur Main Road.

In the second incident in Singanallur, Lakshmi, wife of Jegadeesan, lost her five-sovereign jewellery to two motorcycle borne men when she was on her way to buy milk.

In P.N. Pudur, Saraswathy lost her two-sovereign jewellery to two persons on a motorcycle. The Coimbatore City police have registered three cases in this connection.

Laptops stolen

Unidentified persons stole four laptops from as many houses in various parts of Coimbatore on Saturday.

The police said that Peelamedu Gurusamy Nagar resident Madan Kumar, Kalapatty resident Vijayakumar, and Raghupathy and Gurunathan of Saravanampatti had lodged complaints.

Cases have been registered in this connection.

Killed in accident

Forty-two-year-old Saravanan, a resident of Uppilipalayam, was killed in a road accident on ESI Road on Saturday.

The police said that the rider and pillion rider of the motorcycle that dashed against Saravanan’s were injured and were admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. Saravanan is survived by wife and two children.

He is a member of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam.
