Four persons were killed in as many accidents in the last 24 hours in the district.
In the first incident in Karumathampatty police station limits, Rani, 43, wife of Ramasamy, was knocked down by a speeding car when she was walking near her home in Kaniyur Kollupalayam.
The incident happened on Saturday evening.
In the second incident in Sulur, Shanmugam, 45, was knocked down by a speeding motorcycle when he attempted to cross the Coimbatore-Avinashi Road. The Sulur Police have registered a case in this connection. In the third incident in Sulur police station limits, footwear trader Zakhir Hussain, 36, was killed when an autorickshaw that was parked in front of his shop knocked him after the driver of a lorry lost control of the vehicle and rammed the autorickshaw. The police have registered a case in this connection.
Devaraj, 36, of Venkitapuram, Chinniampalayam, was killed in a road accident on Saturday evening. The Traffic Investigation Wing Police said that the accident involving a lorry happened when he was returning home in his car. Devaraj managed a lathe workshop in the area.
Case registered
Annur Police have registered a case against four persons on charges of organising a vulgar dance show.
The police said that they received a tip-off that the organisers of a temple festival in Kattampatti had arranged for a dance show and that the dancers performed vulgar dance shows.
The police rushed to the spot and stopped the programme.
Two held
The Coimbatore Railway Police have arrested Faisal Khan alias Faisal Rahman, 28, and Shoukat Ali, 34, in two different cases on Saturday.
The police said that they were wanted in cases registered by the police and also their counterparts in Kerala. The two on Saturday attempted to rob passengers and were caught. The police have registered cases in this connection.
House burgled
Unidentified persons gained entry into businessman Sasikumar’s house in Ramakrishnapuram and decamped with gold jewellery weighing five-and-a-half sovereign.
The Variety Hall Road Police said that the incident happened when he was away at his in-laws’ place.
The burglars had broken open the safe to grab the jewellery, estimated to cost over Rs. 80,000. The police have registered a case in this connection.
