Four killed in car-lorry collision in Salem

Four persons, including two women, were killed on the spot after the car in which they travelling rammed the median before colliding with the lorry coming on the service road here in the early hours of Wednesday.

The incident took place near Mamangam on the Salem- Bangalore National Highway, when industrialists P. Kanagaraj (59) of Bangalore, along with his family members, were on their way to a temple in Dindigul.  Kanagaraj, who was on the wheels, lost control of the vehicle and hit the median on the left side of the road and also hit the lorry coming in the service road. In the impact, the front portion of the car was completely damaged.

While Malar (50), wife of Kanagaraj, daughter Kavipriya (35) and grandson Vidinkumar (8) died on the spot, the victim's son-in-law S. Saravanakumar (37) and granddaughter Santhi (12) suffered serious injuries and were admitted to a private hospital. The victims’ bodies were taken to Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital and autopsy conducted.

A case has been registered.
