Four commit suicide in separate incidents

According to police, M. Rajagopal (32) of Nagapattinam reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison on Wednesday. Race Course police suspect this could be owing to a family dispute.

S. Pandiyan (38) of Rathinapuri had hanged himself at his residence on Wednesday.

Rathinapuri police suspected family dispute could be the reason. S. Chitra (17) of Ondipudur, who is studying in Class IX, committed suicide by consuming cow dung powder on Thursday. Singanallur police suspect she could have been pushed into committing suicide due to health problems.

P. Balamurugan (37) of Maniyakaranpalayam reportedly hanged himself at his residence on Wednesday. Health problems are suspected to be the reason in this case also.

Case filed

A 36-year-old woman has alleged that she was assaulted and criminally intimidated by her husband. In her compliant, Sumathi said that she was married to Bennet (37) of Pappanaickenpalayam for 10 years and had two daughters.

She said that Bennet had married another woman in 2001. Sumathi said when she asked for money to meet her daughters' educational expenses, Bennet allegedly assaulted her and criminally intimidated her. Based on her complaint, police arrested Bennet.

House burgled

Burglars broke into the house of A. Jegadeesan (46) of N.G.G.O. Colony and decamped with 10 sovereigns of gold jewellery on Thursday. The incident came to light after Jegadeesan returned home and found the front door broken open.

Four held

The Mettupalayam police on Friday arrested four persons on charges of extortion.

In a complaint, A. Noor Mohammed (32) of Mettupalayam said that when he was walking along the Oomapalayam Road, four persons intercepted him and demanded money and his cell phone.

He alleged that the accused threatened him at knife-point. Police registered a case under Section 387 of the IPC and arrested V. Devaraj (20), P. Anandakumar (20), R. Azharudding (20), and M. Basheer Mohammed (20), all from Mettupalayam.
