Following the murder of an employee at the SIPCOT IT Park in Chennai last month, the IT parks here have also stepped up security. The Coimbatore city police plans to have a meeting soon to identify the role of each stakeholder to ensure safety of women employees in the IT and BPM companies.
The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) issued a set of guidelines last year on best practices to ensure women safety in Information Technology (IT) and business process management (BPM) companies.
“We are following the guidelines of NASSCOM and have reviewed the entire security system at our campus,” says a senior executive at KGISL. In the case of Coimbatore Hi-Tech Infrastructure, the individual companies take care of the security within their campus and the CHIL takes care of the outer security. At KGISL grievance redressal meetings are held on security every month and there are restrictions on visitors entering the buildings after 6 p.m.
An industry source says the companies should create awareness about the guidelines among the employees. It talks of several issues such as transit security, safety within the campus, lighting requirements, etc. The employees should also be aware of these.
