With the objective of creating awareness about eco-friendly measures and converting waste material into resources, a workshop on ‘Wealth from wastes for earth’s sake’ was organised at the Regional Science Centre here on Thursday and Friday.

In a press release, T.M. Alagiri Swamy Raju, Project Director, Regional Science Centre, said that training on preparing vermicompost from organic waste was given to members of women self-help groups, school teachers and students.

Sultan Ahmed Ismail, Managing Director, Ecoscience Research Foundation, Chennai, was the resource person for the training.

The participants were given exposure on organic eco-friendly procedures to convert the wastes from agriculture land, kitchen and even industries into compost. Hands-on training was given on procedures such as vermitech, organic foliar sprays, egg-lime formulations, and organic pest repellent.

A total of 55 SHG members took part, besides 65 students and 10 teachers. V. Chelladurai, Principal, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, inaugurated the workshop.
