With just a week left for September, the main part of the Autumn season to be ushered in the flow of tourists is steadily increasing.
Attributing the increase to the Onam holidays in Kerala, people dependent on tourism for a livelihood are hoping that the trend would continue.
The secretary, Nilgiri Hotels and Retaurants Association (NHRA), N. Chandrashekar, told The Hindu that the present increase in the inflow is not benefiting the hospitality and travel sectors as practically all of them belong to the whistle-stop category. They arrive in the morning and return in the evening.
He added that normally from September, the hill station benefits from tourism to a significant extent.
Autumn season has for long been flaunted as the ideal part of the year to visit this holiday destination.
The reason being that the weather would normally be salubrious and inexpensive accommodation easy to get. Overcast conditions, intermittent rain and biting chillness being experienced here now have taken not only the residents but also the tourists by surprise.
The demand for caps and warm clothes has increased among the tourists.
