Coimbatore, which has direct flight connectivity to Sharjah and Singapore now, is likely to get direct connectivity to the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.
Representatives of Air Asia held discussions with members of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, on Monday to study the potential for operation of flights between Coimbatore and Malaysia, according to the chamber president R. R. Balasundharam.
“We will appeal to the Airports Authority of India to give permission to Air Asia for operation of flight between Coimbatore and Kuala Lumpur,” he said. To begin with, there should be flights at least twice or thrice a week, he said.
“They are interested in Coimbatore as it has potential for both cargo and passenger traffic.”
For the people of Coimbatore, this will be beneficial as they can take flights from Kuala Lumpur to Australia, Japan or China.
Better international flight connectivity is one of the main demands of the industries here for the development of the region.
