Personnel of Central Reserve Police Force, Tamil Nadu Special Police and local police took out the pre-election flag march in the city and other parts of the district on Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police M.R. Sibi Chakravarthy inaugurated the flag-march at the District Police Office. The march led by Additional Superintendent of Police Balaji Saravanan along the Brough Road had the participation of the Deputy Superintendent of Police Periaiah, five Inspectors, 10 sub-inspectors, 30 personnel of local police and 190 members of Tamil Nadu Special Police, besides 75 CRPF jawans.

Border Security Force Personnel attached to two companies were among those who took out the flag-march in Sathyamangalam.

Likewise, members of Central Industrial Security Force took part in the flag march in Perundurai. Flag marches were also conducted in Gobichettipalayam, Gobichettipalayam and Bhavani, police sources said.

Salem

A total of 6,000 personnel, including Central paramilitary force personnel, policemen, ex-servicemen were deployed across the district on Tuesday to provide security on April 24.

There are 2,993 polling stations in the 11 Assembly constituencies that come under the district. City Police Commissioner A. Amalraj told The Hindu that around 2,000 personnel, including one battalion of Border Security Force, 200 Armed Reserve Police personnel and local police personnel were deployed in the city.

A total of 4,000 personnel, including one battalion each of Indo-Tibetan Border Force (ITBF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), three battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), six battalion of Tamil Nadu Special Force and ex-servicemen were deployed in rural areas.

Superintendent of Police R. Sakthivel said that the Central forces would be posted at sensitive booths, guard EVMs while transporting to and from dispatch centres and also at the counting centre.
