Five killed as car rams tree near Krishnagiri

Five people including two women were killed on the spot and three people including two children sustained grievous injuries, as the car in which they were travelling rammed a roadside tree near Pochampalli in the early morning on Wednesday.

Police sources said that the accident took place around 4.30 a.m. near Mettupuliyur village on the Puliyur-Uthangarai Road, when Mr. Palani (55) of Ammankoilpudur near Mathur in Krishnagiri district was returning home after having visiting a temple near Theni along with his family members.

Those died on the spot were: M. Palani (55), his wife P. Padma (50), son M. Kattu Raja (40), daughter in law K. Malarvizhi (35) and the car driver D. Rajendran (37) of Nagarkuttai village.

Palani’s relative K. Senthamarai (45) and K. Vasant (14) and K. Vasika (11) children of the deceased Kattu Raja, were injured in the accident. They have been shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Dharmapuri.

Pochampalli police have registered a case and are investigating.
