Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited on Monday conducted a fire drill at its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) refilling plant at Peelamedu to check the preparedness of the agencies concerned in handling emergency situations as part of the Disaster Control Management Plan (DCMP).
The drill was conducted in the presence of Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories – Division II V. Manoharan and other mutual aid members for emergency situations.
In order to keep major hazardous industries in preparedness state to meet any emergencies arising out of eventualities such as LPG leak, fire periodic drills are conducted.
A hypothetical scenario of LPG leak and vapour cloud formation due to the hose burst and failure of excess flow check valve of the tank truck while unloading at a bay was considered for the mock drill. The employees of Bharat Petroleum activated the emergency response system to arrest the leak promptly.
The drill was assisted by Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Station – Ganapathy, Kovai Medical Center and Hospitals, Indian Oil Corporation, Petronet CCK, Bharat Petroleum Terminal Oil Plant, Hindusthan Petroleum terminal and Indian Oil Aviation station.
The drill was co-ordinated by K. Ravindra, Territory Co-ordinator (LPG), M. Sathyanarayanan, Deputy Manager, and M. Pandiyan, Assistant Manager. Later,a de-briefing meeting was held.
