Fire destroys goods worth Rs. 42 crore

A fire that broke out in the early hours of Thursday at a godown atMettupalayam in Coimbatore district.

A fire at a godown at Mettupalayam in the early hours of Thursday destroyed goods meant for export.

According to sources, the godown was owned by a company that manufactured towels for exports. The fire broke out at around 4 a.m.

Four fire tenders from Mettupalayam, Coimbatore North and South besides Kavundampalayam rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control by 10 a.m.

The manager of the company claimed that goods worth Rs. 42 crore had been destroyed in the fire.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
