Filing of nominations to begin on Saturday

District Election Officer and District Collector Archana Patnaik announced that filing of nominations for candidates seeking to contest Lok Sabha elections from Coimbatore and Pollachi constituencies will begin from March 29.

The nominations can be filed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on all working days except March 30 and 31.

The last date to file nominations is April 5. Nominations for Coimbatore could be filed with District Collector-cum-Returning Officer or with the Principal Assistant Returning Officer i.e., the Deputy Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation. For Pollachi constituency, nominations could be filed with District Revenue Officer, who is the returning officer, or with the Principal Assistant Returning Officer who is the Pollachi Sub-Collector.

Candidates while coming for filing nominations should ensure that they come only in three vehicles and this is applicable to 100 metres distance of the office where the nomination is being filed.

Only five persons will be allowed into the room. The nominations will be taken up for scrutiny from April 7 to April 9 till 3 p.m. On April 9, the final list of candidates will be announced.

Awareness drives

The district administration, in a bid to enhance the voter participation and to strive for 100 per cent polling, has planned to conduct campaigns, rallies, human chains and street plays.

Memorandum

The Election Commission has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with four non-governmental organisations in this connection. The NGOs will work with campus ambassadors in educational institutions.

Meeting

The Collector on Wednesday held a meeting with the campus ambassadors to finalise the programmes.

The drive will also include awareness generation on Electronic Voting Machines by organising a demonstration of the same.
