At the close of the time for filing nominations on Saturday, 34 have filed nominations in the Coimbatore Parliamentary constituency and 29 in the Pollachi Parliamentary constituency. Among the contestants was a woman in each of the two constituencies.

According to a release from the district administration, of the 34 in Coimbatore, 16 belonged to political parties and the rest were Independents. Likewise, in Pollachi, there were 10 from political parties. The rest were Independents.

Starting Monday, the officials would scrutinise the nominations. The last date for withdrawal of nominations was April 9.

M.T. Rani (60) of Salem filed her nomination as a candidate of the Aam Aadmi Party for the Nilgiris Parliamentary Constituency here on Saturday.

Among the eight nominations filed on Saturday were those of K. Gunasekaran of the India Kudiarasu Katchi, M. Kala of the Bahujan Samaj Party and P. Ponnusamy of the CPI (Marxist-Leninist).

The District Election Officer and The Nilgiris Collector P. Sankar said that totally 21 nominations have been filed for The Nilgiris constituency and the total number of candidates was 16.

Tirupur Staff Reporter adds:

A total of 32 candidates had filed nomination papers in total in the Tirupur Lok Sabha constituency.

On Saturday, the last date for filing nominations, 10 people submitted their papers before Collector G. Govindaraj, who is also the Returning Officer.
