Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangam, an apolitical forum of the farmers, demands a separate welfare board for the broiler chicken growers, free insurance scheme and waiver of loans availed by the old poultries in the State.
Over two hundred Sangam members demonstrated in front of the Collectorate on Monday demanding the set up of the board and implementation of other welfare programmes.
Farmers raised slogans against the poultry companies which paying lesser amounts for broiler chicken growers. The Sangam also asked the State government to call the broiler chicken growers for negotiations and find out an amicable solution according to the agreement between the company owners and the growers.
Effective steps should be taken to ensure the poultry companies supply only ISI marked poultry feeds and the packets of feed should be printed the contents.
Broiler chicken companies should pay Rs. 10 per kg for chicken grown by the farmers and Rs. 5 as bonus for every chicken grown by the farmers.
The Sangam has decided to stage agitations in all the district headquarters on October 20 if the government fails to call them for negotiations, demanding immediate solution to the problems faced by the broiler chicken growing farmers in the State.
