Farmer injured in elephant attack

Rangasamy (52), a farmer of Perumalkoil Pathi near Karunya, was injured in an elephant attack late on Tuesday night. According to the police, the wild elephant that was preying on the sugarcane field of Rangasamy charged at him and threw him with its trunk. People of the locality, who heard his cries for help, rushed him to a private hospital in the city.

Snake bite

Two persons, including a 10-year-old boy, succumbed to snake bite at the outskirts of the city on Tuesday.

The boy C. Boopathy, a standard VI student, was sleeping in his house at Masthigoundenpathi near Kumitipathi on Monday night when a snake bit him on his chin. His parents rushed him to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where he was declared brought dead early on Tuesday.

In another incident, S. Alagarsamy (45), a farm labourer near Sulur, was bitten by a snake on his leg when he was irrigating the coconut trees at his employer Thangavel’s land around 8.30 p.m. Sulur Police said that he was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared as brought dead.

Gored to death

A. Nagaraj (50), a farm labourer of Athupollachi, who suffered injuries while trying to give water to a bullock on Monday died on Tuesday. Anamalai Police said that

on Monday morning he tried to give water to the bullock when it attacked him, leaving a deep injury on the left side of his chest with its horn.

He was taken to the Pollachi Government Hospital and referred to CMCH, here where he died.
