The State Highways Department is awaiting administrative sanction from the State Government to take up feasibility study for an extra wing for the first-level of the flyover.

An official of the department said the study would look at the possibility of having an extra wing on 100 feet road, cross cut road, or Bharathiar Road. The report would cover aspects such as cost estimate and land required. A consultant has already inspected the site. Further, the flyover on Nanjappa Road would be closed for heavy vehicles for a couple of months and the second-level flyover under construction would be completed by end of October. The official explained that the second-level flyover would pass over the first-level with a height difference of 5.5 metres between the two. The works would start next week for the central deck and it would take one month to set. Since steel frames have been put in place for the deck of the second-level flyover, the height difference was lesser now and heavy vehicles using the first-level flyover cannot cross the area.

Test drive

Following criticism that the second-level flyover was too steep, especially from 100 feet road, a test drive was conducted on the flyover. Though the slope was according to standards, it has been decided to have fencing for 400 to 500 metres on either side of the second-level flyover, the official added.
