The State Government had organised the Coimbatore edition of the government exhibition to showcase its achievements in the last four-and-half years, said Parithi Ellamvazhuthi, Minister for Information and Public Relations, at the inauguration of the exhibition in the city on Sunday.
The city's residents should not entertain doubts over the government's commitment to the city's development. The government not only sanctioned funds for the World Classical Tamil Conference but also for providing infrastructure. Likewise, the State's economy had grown by 8.96 per cent during 2009-10 and in the ensuing year it was expected to touch 10 per cent.
Minister for Rural Industries and Animal Husbandry Pongalur N. Palanisamy said the State Government had implemented schemes worth Rs. 1,350 crore in the recent past. Coimbatore had grown leaps and bounds, thanks to the government's spending. Even recently, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for a number of schemes and works had begun in some of them.
Many roads had been built and flyovers been announced and a Semmozhi Poonga was in the offing. Information Department, police, Animal Husbandry Department, Agriculture Department, Rural Industries Department and a few more had put up stalls at the exhibition, which would be thrown open for the public between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. District Collector P. Umanath, Mayor R. Venkatachalam, Commissioner Anshul Mishra and other officials participated.
