The 11th edition of the agri expo, which opened at the Suguna Kalyana Mandapam here on Thursday, is a storehouse of implements and inputs for those interested in gardening and farming.

The 90-odd stalls displaying the wares of private and public sector organisations have much to offer in terms of agriculture and dairy farming.

There are the latest in fertilizers, machinery, equipment and tools for those setting up kitchen gardens, soil testing kits, and agricultural publications. Nevertheless, what really attracts the eye is the array of machinery – tractors, tillers, ploughing machinery, besides others in their bright colours.

There are also stalls by government departments like Sericulture, Herbal and Tree Growers' Association, and the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. They have displayed their latest technologies, equipment, and crop varieties. Also on display is the novel device the palmyrah tree climber.

Another useful equipment on display for large farmers is the solar fencing. If one thought that it was all for large farmers and holdings, then it is not so. The nurseries with a variety of plants and the hands-on kit that can be used by housewives for small gardens and kitchen gardens also are a good buy.

For dairy farmers, there are some stalls with milking machines, cattle feed and animal food supplements on display.

Organic food lovers can buy fruits from a stall.

The expo, organised by the Interface Trade Fair Private Limited, was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University P. Murugesa Boopathi. It will be on till July 11.
