The district administration on Thursday organised a rally by students to generate awareness among voters on the need to enrol their names in the electoral rolls to ensure their democratic right.
More than 300 students from Sakthi Engineering College and Aditya Institute of Technology took part in the rally which started from the Collectorate, went through DSP Bus stop road, Head Quarter Road, JM Bakery Round-about, Avanashi Road and reached VOC Park.
Students held placards stressing the need for enrolling names in the electoral rolls.
The administration is on the job of revising the electoral rolls to enable people attaining the age of 18 as on January 1, 2012 to become voters for the next election.
According to election officials, the voters can submit Form 6 for inclusion of names and it should be supported by proofs such as ration card, postal address proof, LPG book/receipt, driving licence or passport copy.
Form 7 can be submitted for deletion of names, Form 8 for carrying out correction in name, address or any other detail in the electoral rolls (on correcting the same, it will be carried out in the photo voter ID card) and Form 8 A for change of address within the Assembly Constituency.
A final decision on accepting the applications will be taken only after field verification. Applicants, who are less than 25 years of age, should compulsorily produce a copy of the birth certificate with name or school transfer certificate.
The forms can be submitted at the nearest polling station at a special camp to be held on November 6 (Sunday) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. People who miss the opportunity can submit the forms at the respective taluk offices on November 8, which is the last date for the rolls revision.
At the special camp held on October 30, the administration had received as many as 18,000 forms for inclusion in rolls. However, because of technical difficulties, no duplicate EPIC card could be issued for those who had misplaced their voter ID cards. These requests would be handled separately, the officials said. A similar awareness rally will be taken out in Pollachi on November 4.
The officials involved in the rolls revision have been instructed not to accept forms submitted in bulk.
The final electoral rolls on completion of revision will be published on January 5, 2012.
