Public Works Department officials in association with their counterparts from the Coimbatore Corporation, Revenue Department and City Police demolished encroached structure along the Singanallur Tank on Wednesday. According to sources in the PWD, following disposal of a case regarding the encroachers, Jaya and Siva, about two months ago, they initiated action by demolishing the structure, which housed a fish shop.

Though they handled the case, the PWD officials also brought in Corporation officials because the tank at present was under their control, the sources said.

The shop was spread over five cents along the eastern boundary of the tank in ‘vari poromboke'.

The sources also said that they also be removing huts that were on encroached lands along the east of the tank. The action would begin once the Revenue Department identifies the huts, the sources added.
