January 19, 2012 03:00 pm | Updated October 18, 2016 03:09 pm IST - COIMBATORE:

A herd of elephants damaged a house of a teacher and crops in Thondamuthur area on Tuesday night.

Five elephants strayed into human habitat and damaged the door and windows of a house in Kombanur.

Effort by people and forest officials to drive the elephants back into the forest failed. On Wednesday morning, the elephants went back to the forest.

Meanwhile, nine elephants entered Kuppanur in Madhampatty and damaged crops.

People burst crackers and drove the elephants. Frequent straying of elephants in residential areas of Kombanur, Kaliyur and Kuppepalayam has caused panic among the residents.
