Elephant tramples woman to death in Mutthaattu Vayal

The Forest Department has posted watchers in the area to monitor the movement of the elephant.

Subbathal ,67, of Mutthaattu Vayal at the foothills of Poondi Vellingiri Andavar temple here was trampled to death by a wild elephant during the early hours of Friday. According to the police, the old woman was staying with her son’s family. Villagers who heard her screaming for help during the early hours of Friday, rushed only to see the elephant trampling her to death. The Forest Department has posted watchers in the area to monitor the movement of the elephant.

Two held

Two persons were arrested in connection with the death of an unidentified person whose body was found near the railway track in Sungam area on Thursday. N. Selvaraj, 36, a farm worker from Annur, and Manohar, 56, a farm owner, have confessed that they had beaten up the victim when he entered their farm around 3 a.m. on Thursday. Investigation is on.
