A male elephant was found dead in the district on Wednesday. Based on the nature of injuries found in the carcass, Forest Department officials suspect that it might have died in a fight with another elephant.

According to officials, the elephant was estimated to be between eight and 10 years old.

The carcass was found near Perur Chettipalayam village in Coimbatore Range. The Forest Department conducted the post-mortem later in the day after which they disposed off the carcass.

There has been an increased movement of elephants in the past couple of months as this is the migratory period for elephants. Coimbatore lies adjacent to the elephant corridor. A one-and-a-half-year-old elephant calf was also found dead recently at Valparai.
