Electoral rolls: women outnumber men in inclusion in Coimbatore

Kavundampalayam has highest number of over 3.39 lakh voters

More women opted for inclusion of names in the electoral rolls compared to men in the just concluded rolls revision.

District Revenue Officer K. Karpagam, Revenue Divisional Officer S. Shanthakumar, Corporation Deputy Commissioner S. Sivarasu and Assistant Commissioners A. Lakshmanan and M. Durairaj released the electoral rolls in respect of 10 constituencies in the district on Thursday.

Electoral rolls were revised with January 1, 2013, as the qualifying date after the revision works were carried out from October 1, 2012 to November 20, 2012.

As many as 1,25,437 applications were received for inclusion of names, 4,369 forms for deletion and 5,550 forms were submitted for change of address.

The roll revision for Mettupalayam, Sulur, Kavundampalayam, Coimbatore North, Thondamuthur, Coimbatore South, Singanallur, Kinathukkadavu, Pollachi and Valparai witnessed a total inclusion of 1,21,121 voters of which 59,226 were men and 61,877 were women. The district has a total of 18 transgender electorate.

The highest inclusion of 21,375 voters came from Kavundampalayam, the next highest was from Coimbatore North with 16,445 voters and the third highest of 13,933 voters from Thondamuthur.

Kavundampalayam constituency has the highest number of over 3.39 lakh voters while Pollachi and Valparai constituencies accounted for the least number of voters.

The electoral rolls are on display for the public to verify at the Corporation Zonal offices, taluk and revenue divisional offices.

Collector M. Karunagaran said that for the new voters, photo voter ID cards would be issued on January 25, the National Electors Day.

For other category of voters, the cards would be issued from January 17.

Tirupur

The supplementary photo electoral rolls released by Collector G. Govindaraj on Thursday had 17,93,410 voters (9,10,042 men, 8,83,319 women and others-49) in the district, an increase of 51,895 voters from the last rolls published on October 1, 2012.

Mr. Govindaraj said that during the revision exercise, as many as 78,894 persons (38,256 men, 40,610 women and others-28) were included and names of 26,999 persons (14,866 men, 12,132 women and others-1) were deleted.

As far as inclusion was concerned, a maximum of 14,448 were included at Palladam, among the eight Assembly constituencies in the district, while the maximum deletion of 7,414 names happened at Kangayam constituency.

A glance through the new rolls indicated that the maximum electorate of 2,69,718 (1,38,408 men, 1,31,307 women, others- 3) are in Palladam constituency.

The Madathukulam constituency has the least number of 1,92,615 voters (96,589 men, 96,025 women and others-1).
