Efforts on to deport dacoity accused

Coimbatore Rural Police have initiated efforts to deport a dacoity case accused who escaped to Singapore after looting a house at Thirumalayampalayam on the outskirts of the city on May 7.

On May 7, a group of five persons (four of them wearing masks) entered the house of a construction contractor Gnanasekaran and escaped with 24 sovereigns of jewellery, Rs. 95,000 in cash, car and cellular phone. In the process, they attacked the house owner and his relative.

Special teams arrested Muthuraj (24) and Selvam (23) from Ganapathy and Manikandan (23) from Sivaganga in connection with the case. In the hunt for the two remaining accused, police learnt that Karthik, an ITI diploma holder working as a painter in Singapore, was also involved in the case. The accused who was in India on a vacation had assisted in the dacoity. After selling the car, he was said to have escaped to Singapore.

The Superintendent of Police – Coimbatore Rural District, E.S. Uma, said that efforts are on through the High Commission to get the accused deported to India and all immigration officials at the airports are being informed of the same.

Meanwhile, hunt is on for the other absconding accused Karuthapandi.
